In remembrance: Matthew Kyle Swartz

We sadly share news of the passing of our student, Matthew Kyle Swartz (23), on 4 August 2022. He passed away peacefully in his sleep following a long battle with leukaemia.
Matthew was studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He was a committed and hardworking student who remained humble and kind to everyone he encountered. Matthew was a very gentle and loving person with the purest heart and will always be remembered for the enormous impact he made on his family and friends, how deeply he cared for and loved everyone and how bravely he fought.
Matthew is the son of our own Marco Swartz of the Commercial Development Unit. Our hearts go out to Marco, Lindsay, and Matthew’s siblings Mia and Jason. As a community we mourn with you during this very difficult time.
To honour the short but impactful legacy of Matthew a memorial service will be held on 8 August 2022 at South Peninsula High School Hall at 18:00 for 19:00. Matthew will then be laid to rest following his funeral on 10 August 2022 at the Calvyn Protestant Church, Retreat at 11:00. The funeral will also be livestreamed for those who would like to join remotely.
The university has lost a student and son who will be missed by the many who were fortunate enough to meet him.
