In remembrance: Tembekile Sibali

23 May 2022

Dear colleagues and students

It is with much grief that we share the passing of our colleague, Mr Tembekile Sibali (60), on 28 April 2022 following an illness.

Mr Sibali was a campus protection officer based at the UCT Graduate School of Business (GSB). He joined the University of Cape Town in October 2017.

His colleagues remember him as a very humble person who was always willing to go the extra mile. He showed experience in everything that he did and his commitment to his job saw him assisting not only staff but also the many guests at the GSB. Students remember him as a quiet, friendly face around the campus, who always greeted with a smile.

During this time of sorrow, our thoughts are with the family of Mr Sibali – including his wife Nomthandazo; three daughters, Limyoli, Lucy and Hlalukonaphakade; and two sons Bonga Sihle and Aloyiswa.

A memorial service was held on 6 May and Mr Sibali was laid to rest on 14 May 2022 in Ngqeleni (Lutsheko Village), Eastern Cape.

The university has lost a dedicated member of staff who will be dearly missed. We extend our deepest condolences to his family, as well as his friends and everyone who has been affected by his passing.

We have been in touch with Mr Sibali’s family to offer our support.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
