In remembrance: Mr Bonginkosi Mangali

We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mr Bonginkosi Mangali (57), a campus protection officer at Burnage House. Mr Mangali passed away on Sunday, 7 December 2025, at Groote Schuur Hospital, following a short illness.
He joined the University of Cape Town (UCT) as a campus protection officer on 1 July 2016.
As a colleague and friend, he will be remembered as the heart and strength of his family; someone who was strict yet soft hearted, loved to joke around and make sure everyone is included in whatever is happening. Mr Mangali will also be remembered as a man who was proud of his work. While he wasn’t a man of many words, his actions spoke loudest.
Mr Mangali is survived by his elder sister, Nomagcisa; brother, Maboyce; his four children, Yolanda, Siyavuya, Siphelele, Athule; and his granddaughter, Lunathi. Mr Mangali’s burial will take place on Saturday, 20 December 2025, at Mdantsane NU 8 in the Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Mangali family during this time of bereavement. Our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him.
