Your opportunity to get vaccinated this week

27 July 2021 | VC Prof Mamokgethi Phakeng

Dear colleagues

Following Dr Blade Nzimande’s announcement of the formal commencement of the COVID-19 vaccination programme in the post-schooling education and training sector (PSET) on Friday, Higher Health has just confirmed that University of Cape Town (UCT) staff members who are aged 35 years or older will be able to receive COVID-19 vaccinations from whichever Provincial Department of Health site is most convenient.

If you are 35 years or older, you can go to any of these sites and join the PSET queue from Tuesday, 27 July to Friday, 30 July and get your vaccine. Vaccination sites are open from 08:00 to 17:00 daily. Please let your line manager know when you take time out of work to complete this important step.

If you are in the eligible age group, please take a moment to register for the vaccine through the EVDS system if you have not done so already. You will receive an SMS to verify your registration. PSET employees will be vaccinated on presentation of the following:

  • South African identification card/South African residents permit/passport if a foreign national
  • Proof of employment (staff identity, staff card or a letter from the head of the institution)
  • Medical aid details (if applicable).

If you have questions about whether getting a vaccination is the right choice for you, please read the Western Cape Department of Health COVID-19 Vaccination Fact Sheet.

Getting vaccinated will help to keep down the COVID-19 transmission rate across UCT and South Africa. Thank you in advance to everyone who takes this important step.

Sincerely

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
