New implementation date for UCT’S revised Employment Equity Policy

09 February 2021 | Professor Loretta Feris

Dear colleagues and students,

I am writing to inform you that the University of Cape Town (UCT) has made the decision to delay the implementation of the revised Employment Equity Policy to 1 March 2021, in order to ensure sufficient preparation time for the university community and administrative staff.

We have no wish to unduly delay the introduction of this revised policy, which was approved by Council last month and scheduled for implementation on 1 February 2021. But we believe it is prudent to designate the rest of the month as a transition period, to give all faculties and departments the chance to become fully acquainted with its provisions.

This important document details clear principles that underpin decision-making that affects all staff at UCT, and I want to acknowledge those who have already commenced with the onboarding of the new practices.

Meanwhile, the Office for Inclusivity and Change, together with the university’s Human Resources Department, will continue driving this change process via ongoing training around the provisions of the revised policy, and the practicalities of implementing its related procedures.

We thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely

Professor Loretta Feris
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Transformation
