In remembrance: Thembeka Fihla

28 July 2020

Dear colleagues and students

It is with sadness that we mourn the passing of our colleague, Mrs Thembeka Fihla (50), who was the food service supervisor in Student Housing. Mrs Fihla passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, 23 July 2020 at Khayelitsha Hospital as a result of COVID-19 related complications.

Mrs Fihla, who was based at Rochester Hall at the time of her passing and was last on campus in March, had been part of the UCT family for 17 years. Her colleagues fondly remember her as a godly woman with a warm smile and an eager willingness to assist.

She is survived by her husband, Mr Mongameli Mazamane; daughters Anelisa and Sisipho; and sons Mphumzi and Siphamandla.

Her funeral will be held in Centane, Eastern Cape on Saturday, 1 August 2020.

The university has extended our heartfelt condolences and offered support to the Fihla family in this period of bereavement. We further convey our condolences to her friends and colleagues.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
