In remembrance: Sharon Carelse

Dear colleagues and students

It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the unexpected death of Ms Sharon Carelse (59), who passed away on Thursday, 9 January 2020.

Ms Carelse joined UCT on 1 July 2016. At the time of her passing she was a residence cleaning supervisor at the UCT Obz Square residence. She will be remembered as a mother figure to her team. Her colleagues have described her as a person with strong spiritual convictions who was committed to her work, a pleasure to work with and a team player.

She is survived by her mother, three children, one grandchild and two siblings.

There will be a memorial service at Rochester House, Browning Road, Observatory on 15 January 2020 from 14:00 to 16:00.

The funeral will take place at 10:00 on Saturday, 18 January 2020, at the New Apostolic Church on the corner of Stuka Street and 18th Avenue, Factreton. There will be a viewing beforehand at 09:00 at 1 Matroos Square, Factreton.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Carelse family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew Ms Carelse.
