In remembrance: Lumka Mpopoma-Diamond

20 March 2019 | The UCT Executive

Dear students and colleagues

It is with sadness that we inform you of the untimely death of Mrs Lumka Mpopoma-Diamond (42), who passed away at home in Mfuleni on Sunday, 10 March 2019.

Mrs Mpopoma-Diamond registered at UCT as an undergraduate student in social work at the beginning of this year. While studying full-time, she continued to work full-time as a nurse. Her dedication and determination made her an inspiration to those who knew her. She has been described as a kind, friendly and warm person, who her flatmates regarded as a mother to them. They had so much respect for her and she had equal respect for them. She was determined to improve her life and career, and she embodied strength and courage.

Mrs Mpopoma-Diamond is survived by her husband and five children. She will be sorely missed by colleagues, friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at Liesbeeck Gardens on Wednesday, 20 March 2019, at 19:00. The funeral is scheduled for 23 March 2019 in Gatyana, Eastern Cape.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Mrs Mpopoma-Diamond’s family, friends, colleagues and all who knew her.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
