In remembrance: death of a colleague

12 March 2019 | The UCT Executive

Dear colleagues and students

We write to express our deep sadness following the untimely passing of Ms Melanie Heather Karsten (49) on Sunday, 10 March 2019.

In 2012 Ms Karsten joined the university as a creditors and reconciliation clerk in the Creditors Department in Procurement and Payment Services (PPS).

She has been described as a very sweet, young-at-heart person, with a bubbly personality and a good sense of humour. She had good rapport with all purchasers with whom she engaged. Many colleagues regarded her as very knowledgeable and the best person to turn to for help.

Ms Karsten is survived by her aunt and brother. She will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by colleagues, friends and family.

Details of the memorial and funeral services are not yet finalised.

A shrine has been set up at PPS for anyone who wishes to pay tribute to her.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Ms Karsten’s family, friends, colleagues and all who knew her.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
