Student engagement survey and other updates

25 September 2018 | Campus Announcement

Dear students and colleagues

This campus announcement aims to inform members of the University of Cape Town community about:

1. Student engagement survey

The University of Cape Town (UCT) is participating in the South African Survey of Student Engagement (SASSE) 2018. The survey collects data from undergraduate students at a number of South African universities, and then gathers comprehensive information from universities relating to high-impact experiences and behaviours identified as having an influence on the teaching and learning experience. The results of this research can be used to improve student support, student life and the quality of teaching and learning on university campuses. The survey closes on 12 October 2018.

2. SRC elections voting week

UCT students can vote for their preferred candidates for the 2018/19 Students’ Representative Council (SRC) this week. Students can vote either online by logging in using their UCT credentials or at a voting station on campus. Online voting is available 24 hours a day until 23:00 on Friday, 28 September 2018.

Please report any incidents or complaints to Edwina Brooks (edwina.brooks@uct.ac.za), the Chief Electoral Officer.

3. Appointment of Dean: Faculty of Commerce

Associate Professor Linda Ronnie has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Commerce. She joined UCT in 2002 as a senior lecturer in human resource management, and has held numerous leadership positions. She brings a wealth of institutional knowledge and experience and will take up her new role on 22 October 2018.

4. Curriculum Change Framework feedback

The Curriculum Change Working Group (CCWG) has completed the work it initiated in 2016 and its report, the Curriculum Change Framework, has been released for comment. Engaging with the report is a fundamental step in an institutional dialogue about curriculum and the meanings and practices of curriculum change across disciplines.

5. Completion of employment equity declaration form

For UCT to comply with the Department of Labour’s employment equity requirements, staff members are requested to complete the employment equity declaration form by 12:00 on Wednesday, 3 October 2018. The form can be completed online or in hard copy for staff who do not have access to computers or those who prefer to download a printable copy. Staff who experienced any technical glitches for the first few minutes when the notice was issued on Friday, 21 September 2018, are advised that these have been resolved and the form is fully accessible.
