Jammie Shuttle service affected by industrial action

11 September 2018 | Campus Announcement

Dear students and colleagues

The Jammie Shuttle service will not be operational on Wednesday, 12 September 2018, due to industrial action. The service was suspended at lunchtime on Tuesday 11 September after bus drivers joined the strike by other UCT staff members, which began earlier in the day. The University of Cape Town has been informed that the strike will continue on Wednesday.

The strike is regarding demands for additional payments to residence cleaning staff who perform seasonal deep-cleaning functions, and for all recruitment processes to be halted immediately to allow the unions concerned to participate in these processes.

Staff and students who use the Jammie Shuttle will need to make alternative travel arrangements. Further updates will be provided via the UCT website, Facebook and Twitter.
