In remembrance: Zusakhe Luphindo Gwetyana

16 March 2018 | From the VC's Desk

Dear students and colleagues

It is with sadness that I write to inform you that Mr Zusakhe Luphindo Gwetyana (22), who was studying towards his postgraduate diploma in accounting, has passed away. He died on Monday, 12 March 2018, at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town after a short illness.

Mr Gwetyana enrolled for his studies at UCT in 2014 and completed his Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2016. He was working at the Education Development Unit (EDU) in the Faculty of Commerce at the time of his death. Colleagues in the EDU said that they will remember Mr Gwetyana as a gentle soul with a bubbly personality.

He is survived by his aunts and cousins.

Mr Gwetyana will be buried on Saturday, 24 March 2018, in Mthatha, Eastern Cape. Details of his memorial service are still to be finalised.

The university is in contact with his family and has reached out to offer support during this time of grief. We convey our heartfelt condolences to Mr Gwetyana’s family, friends and all who knew him.

Sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
