Protesters set off the fire alarm in Graça Machel Hall early this morning and then left taps open across the residence, causing flooding in some areas. The staff on hand worked swiftly to manage the situation, avoiding major damage. The incident has been reported to Campus Protection Services.

The current drought means that we cannot afford to waste a much-needed water resource in this way. This action is condemned by the UCT executive.

Catering services will be suspended in residences up to and including Thursday, 9 November. Food vouchers will be provided.

All libraries are open today, including the Vincent Kolbe Knowledge Commons and the Research Commons. The Library Learning Lounge is closed until further notice.

Classes, tests and exams proceed as scheduled, but course conveners may postpone or cancel events at their discretion in the interests of safety. The Jammie Shuttles are running without interruptions and all UCT libraries will be open as normal.
