Residences have stopped catering services due to the recent disruptions caused by protest action. Students were given food vouchers for all meals on 2 and 3 November 2017. After a meeting of the executive of the College of Wardens yesterday evening, a decision has been made to provide students in residences with food vouchers for 4, 5 and 6 November.

Any students who are finding it difficult to cope with the additional stresses introduced by the disruptions on campus due to protest are urged to make use of the available mental health services. The university has collaborated with the South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) to offer students a professional and confidential service that will help them to deal with any mental health issues. In order to address problems effectively, however, students are encouraged to seek assistance and guidance as early as possible.

The SADAG UCT Student Careline – 0800 24 25 26 from a Telkom line or SMS 31393 for a callback – offers 24/7 telephonic counselling and general support to students who are facing mental health challenges or contemplating suicide. The line is also available to offer support and advice to anyone who is concerned about a student who might be in distress.
