Appointment of special assistant to DVC Petersen

11 February 2016 | From the VC’s Desk

Dear colleagues and students

Following my communication of last Friday regarding the constitution of a special executive task team to assist with specific challenges that we anticipate will arise this year, I would like to advise you of the appointment of Professor Hugh Corder as special assistant to Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Francis Petersen.

Professor Corder will take responsibility for the following functions, while Professor Petersen leads the task team (with effect from 1 February 2016):

  • Library Services
  • Information, Communication and Technology Services
  • Human Resources, excluding the bargaining process and the insourcing project
  • Joint responsibility (with Professor Petersen) for faculty affairs, the Deans, and the Director of the Graduate School of Business
  • Chairing of committees associated with the above areas, and representing Professor Petersen on various structures in the university.

Professor Corder has been Professor of Public Law at the University of Cape Town since 1987 and a Fellow of the University since 2004. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Law from January 1999 to December 2008. His main teaching and research interests fall within the field of Constitutional and Administrative Law, particularly judicial appointments and accountability, and mechanisms to further administrative accountability.

Sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
