On 4 September 2022, The Global Short Academic Programmes unit (GSAP) at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) International Academics Programme Office (IAPO) welcomed 30 students and two faculty staff from the Asian Society of Film and Television (ASFT)-Asian Law College (ALC), India.

The group participated in a week-long programme on international law and legal framework within the South African context, which consisted of lectures pertaining to topics such as the effects of mediatising South Africa’s truth and reconciliation commission. This customised global short academic programme was designed specifically for ASFT-ALC, in collaboration with the UCT Law@Work.

Throughout the course of the programme, students attended lectures on various UCT campuses along with a tour of the surrounding areas. Experiential learning was incorporated as part of the programme, which included a visit to the Nelson Mandela Gateway through to Robben Island, as well as an excursion to Table Mountain. On the second-last day of the programme a farewell dinner was arranged before a final excursion to the Cape Peninsula.

IAPO hopes to develop more customised programmes with other international universities.
