Mid-year examinations update
The University of Cape Town's (UCT) mid-year examinations commenced on Thursday, 28 May and will continue until Monday, 15 June 2026. To support students during this critical academic period, various departments have collaborated to put in place comprehensive logistical arrangements.

Submit your annual declaration of interests form
As a requirement of the Higher Education Act, all University of Cape Town (UCT) staff members and members of university committees must make a full annual declaration of their financial interests and fiduciary roles and those of their immediate family members.

In remembrance: Nandipha Mhlom
It is with heartfelt sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague Nandipha Sweetness Mhlom (51), who served as a food services assistant. She passed away on Friday, 15 May 2026 at Khayelitsha Hospital in Cape Town.

UCT TLC2026: Connection, Reconfigured: Reimagining teaching and learning with AI
The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) annual Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC) provides an opportunity for the university’s community to focus on teaching and learning. Co-hosted by the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED) and the UCT AI Initiative, the 2026 UCT Teaching and Learning Conference (TLC2026) is scheduled to take place from 17–18 November 2026 and will be preceded by workshops on 16 November.

We are almost halfway into the year, and we are continuing with our tradition of hosting lectures in the University of Cape Town (UCT) Inaugural Lecture series. By the end of May 2026, we would have hosted seven inaugural lectures so far this year.

Nominations are now open for the fifth 2026 UCT Open Textbook Award. This award has proved to be a crucial mechanism for supporting innovative open education activity that addresses challenges related to the cost and accessibility of teaching and learning materials, as well as curriculum change and multilingualism at the University of Cape Town (UCT).
