Dear colleagues and students
It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of our student, Mr Luthando Mbulawa (23), a fifth-year medical student. He passed away on Saturday, 26 July 2025.
Mr Mbulawa enrolled for his studies at the University of Cape Town’s (UCT) Faculty of Health Sciences in 2021.
He has been described by his friends and classmates as being more than a friend to them, but more like a brother. He valued connection, closeness and family, even among friends. He will be remembered as someone who could make everyone laugh – whether in class, during lunch, or while walking home from school. Beyond being funny, he was also kind and generous, and he was always there to lend a hand whenever friends and classmate needed help with any subjects.
He is survived by his father, Mr Sthembile Mbulawa.
He will be laid to rest on Saturday, 9 August 2025 in Mbizana, Eastern Cape.
The university has reached out to offer support to the Mbulawa family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of bereavement.
Sincerely
The UCT Executive
