In remembrance: Dumisani Weleshe

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Mr Dumisani Weleshe (37), who served as a tactical response officer in Campus Protection Services (CPS). Mr Weleshe passed away on Saturday, 9 November 2024.

Mr Weleshe joined the University of Cape Town in December 2013 and was based at lower and middle campuses.

Colleagues will remember him as a quiet and energetic individual with a great personality. He was focused on his work and contributed significantly to the success of the department. He maintained strong relationships with his colleagues.

Mr Weleshe is survived by his mother Notayitile; wife Zozibini; daughter Esomusa; son Lundanele; brother Phinda; and sisters Nolitha, Asanda, Buyelwa, Nosipho and Liyabona.

He was laid to rest on Saturday, 16 November 2024 in his hometown of Mthatha in the Eastern Cape.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Weleshe family, and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of grief.
