Two Oceans marathon: impact on shuttles, road closures and parking

10 April 2024

Dear colleagues and students

The annual Two Oceans Marathon will take place on Saturday, 13 April, and Sunday, 14 April 2024. This will necessitate some adjustments to the University of Cape Town (UCT) shuttle services and cause temporary road closures.

1. UCT shuttle operations during the weekend

The Two Oceans Marathon race finishes on upper campus at UCT. The university’s shuttle service will operate on its normal weekend schedule. However, due to the marathon-related activities taking place on campus and the surrounding areas, shuttles may experience significant delays.

Students and staff are advised to use the UCT GoMetro Move app (download on Google Play or App Store), which provides live updates and locations of all shuttles.

2. Road closures and parking restrictions

The marathon will impact access to UCT, as well as the availability of parking on campus.

On Thursday, 11 April 2024, Madiba Circle East will be closed from 09:00, with traffic officials assisting to control the area until it re-opens on Monday, 15 April 2024.

The South entrance (Wynberg) from the M3 will be closed from 03:00 to 15:00 on Saturday,13 April 2024. Expect delays from the north side on the day.

3. Parking

Please note that P1, P4 and P5 (upper campus) will be closed from 18:00 on Thursday, 11 April 2024, until Sunday, 13 April 2024.

The following parking areas will be closed for UCT and available as prepaid parking for the Two Oceans Marathon on 13 and 14 April 2024:

  • P6, P7, P8, P15, P16 (all upper campus)
  • Madiba West (upper campus)
  • Tennis court area (upper campus)
  • P1 (middle campus)
  • School of Economics (middle campus)
  • All Africa House (middle campus)

The following parking areas will be reserved for UCT parking disc holders on the marathon days:

  • P11, P12, P14 and P17 (all upper campus)

Please note P2 will be reserved for the Two Oceans Marathon committee.

All campuses will be open for UCT staff and students on 13 and 14 April 2024, but they will need to produce a UCT parking disk or student card at entry points.
