In remembrance: Dr Gaëlle Ramon

05 February 2024

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of our colleague, Dr Gaëlle Ramon (48), on Friday, 26 January 2024. Dr Ramon, who served as manager for researcher development in the Office for Postgraduate Studies and Researcher Development within the Research Office, passed away after a short illness.

Her colleagues will remember her for the impact she made since taking up the role in 2016, and for her compassion and dedication to mentoring academics. She is also remembered as someone with a radiant smile, and for her friendly and vibrant personality. Colleagues described her as an exceptional leader who left an impression on all who crossed her path.

The family will host a private memorial service, to be attended by close friends and colleagues; and the Research Office will host a memorial service on Thursday, 8 February 2024 at 15:00 in the Chris Hani Lecture Theatre on upper campus.

Dr Ramon is survived by her parents, Chantal Rodes and Robert Ramon; her stepparents, Michel Rodes and Liliane Ramon; her brother Virgile Ramon and sister-in-law Diana Ramon; as well as her nephews Ethan, Noah and Sacha.

The university has reached out to offer support to Dr Ramon’s family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew her.
