CHE site visit – open session and written feedback

15 August 2022

Dear colleagues and students

The Council on Higher Education (CHE) institutional audit site visit is underway. We thank the Institutional Audit Steering Committee, supported by the Institutional Planning Department (IPD), for handling the preparations and planning for this important phase of the CHE institutional audit.

We are also grateful to staff and students who have indicated their willingness and availability to be interviewed as part of this process.

Interviews for the first three days (15–17 August) will be held online via Microsoft Teams.

On the last two days (18–19 August), the panel will physically visit UCT for interviews and tours. UCT staff and students will join these interviews either online or in-person. We thank the departments that have made themselves readily available to guide the panel around UCT’s campuses and facilities.

In my last communication on the CHE site visit to UCT, I advised that the programme allows for an open session where any member of the university community can address the audit panel on any quality-related matter. This session is scheduled for 11:00–12:00 on 19 August 2022. Participation in this session is by prior arrangement with the CHE audit administrator. This is therefore an open invitation to anyone in the university community wishing to join this session to please submit a request to the CHE audit administrator.

The university community may also provide written submissions on any aspect of quality management to the chairperson of the audit panel via the CHE. As far as possible, written submissions should refer to evidence on aspects of quality management. A reminder that all submissions are confidential.

UCT staff and students may use their login credentials to access the institutional Self-Evaluation Report (SER) and summary on the IPD website. A pre-recorded briefing for interviewees is also available on the IPD website.

Finally, please join me in welcoming the audit panel to the University of Cape Town. We look forward to hearing their insights into our internal quality assurance system.

Sincerely

Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng
Vice-Chancellor
