Staff assembly on draft UCT Vaccine Mandate Policy

25 January 2022

Dear colleagues

The university’s Vaccine Mandate Panel (VMP) will hold a session on the draft UCT Vaccine Mandate Policy at a staff assembly this week. The session is part of the consultative process and speaks to the Institutional Fora. It will be facilitated by the Chair of the VMP and Deputy Dean: Health Services in the Faculty of Health Sciences, Associate Professor Tracey Naledi and Deputy Chair, Professor Pierre de Vos, the Claude Leon Foundation Chair in Constitutional Governance in the Faculty of Law.

All staff are encouraged to participate in the session to make their voices heard and to learn more about the work of the panel. This also includes reading the draft policy ahead of the session to ensure meaningful engagement.

The online staff assembly will be held at 08:30 on Thursday, 27 January via the Microsoft Teams platform.

As already communicated, following Council’s in-principle approval of a proposal requiring that all staff and students provide acceptable proof of having been vaccinated against COVID-19, the draft policy has been published in full and is open to a consultation process among UCT stakeholders. This consultation process will be completed by 31 January 2022.

Comments can be sent via email to vmp@uct.ac.za. Once all comments are received, the VMP will consider these further and a final decision on the policy will be made by the UCT Council.
