Key appointments and retirement
Dean: Faculty of Health Sciences
Associate Professor Lionel Green-Thompson was appointed Dean with effect from 15 March 2020. He joined the faculty from the Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University in Gauteng where he was Dean of the School of Medicine. He graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) where he obtained an MBBCh degree. He is a Fellow of the College of Anaesthetists of the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa. He obtained his MMed (Anaesthesia) at Wits in 2011.
Executive Director: Research Office
Dr Linda Mtwisha has been appointed as the new executive director of research with effect from 1 October 2020. Dr Mtwisha joined UCT from the University of Johannesburg, where she was the senior director of strategic initiatives and administration. Her qualifications include a PhD in biochemistry from UCT and a master’s degree in business leadership from the University of South Africa.
Director: Graduate School of Business
Dr Catherine Duggan has been appointed as the new director of the Graduate School of Business from 1 September 2020. Dr Duggan is an accomplished academic who brings more than 20 years of work in Africa, as well as extensive experience at top global business schools, to the role. She joined UCT from the African Leadership University School of Business (ALUSB) in Rwanda, where she was the vice dean for strategy and research.
Professor Daya Reddy will retire at the end of 2020. He is a National Research Foundation A-rated scholar and former head of the Department of Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and Dean of the Faculty of Science from 1999 to 2005. Professor Reddy served as acting deputy vice-chancellor on three occasions: in 2017, 2008/9 and 2002.
