In remembrance: Given Mbana

27 August 2021

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened to convey news of the passing of our colleague, Mr Given Mbana (54), on Sunday, 15 August 2021.

Mr Mbana, who joined the University of Cape Town in November 2016, was a food services supervisor at Student Housing & Residence Life. He was based at Leo Marquard residence.

He will be remembered as a culture-orientated man who selflessly put the needs of his family before his own. He was thoughtful with a calm and peaceful demeanour. He interacted easily with staff and students and provided guidance and support.

He was loyal, had a strong work ethic and was always willing to assist whenever required. He had integrity and sound morals and values. He was respected by all. He made an impact on everyone and his shy smile will always be remembered.

Mr Mbana is survived by his wife Nomgcobo; daughters Mihlali, Mekuto and Lisakhanya; son Zukhanye; brother Mkwedi; and sisters Busisiwe and Babalwa.

His funeral service will be held on Sunday, 29 August 2021 in Idutywa, Eastern Cape.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Mbana family and our sincere condolences go out to them and all who knew and loved him during this time of bereavement.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
