Financial aid support for postgraduate students

24 March 2021 | Professor Sue Harrison

Dear postgraduate students

The Postgraduate Funding Office (PGFO) is pleased to announce that following the university Council’s concession to allow students with outstanding 2020 debt to register for the 2021 academic year, we have secured additional funding. This limited funding will be used to provide criterion-based financial assistance, as per UCT’s postgraduate funding policy, to academically deserving students with debt.

The financial assistance, depending on a student’s financial circumstances, will be in the form of a bursary/bailout or loan. Eligible postgraduate students are encouraged to apply for the assistance through the appeals form and provide all the necessary supporting documents. The closing date for all applications is 5 April 2021 and students must ensure that all applications have the necessary supporting documents. No late applications will be considered.

The outcome of the appeals will be communicated by 20 April 2021.

Eligibility criteria for postgraduate financial assistance

Due to the source of funding, this call is applicable for only South Africans students or students with a South African permanent residency.

In addition, as per the current funding guidelines, the PGFO will not be able to assist students registered for postgraduate diplomas. Furthermore, the PGFO is not able to assist students registered in the Graduate School of Business programmes.

Eligible candidates are invited to submit their complete application forms with supporting documents to pgappeals@uct.ac.za.

We look forward to receiving your applications and wish you the very best with your studies.

Sincerely

Professor Sue Harrison
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Internationalisation
