In remembrance: Michael Cilliers

18 January 2021

Dear colleagues and students

We are deeply saddened as we write to convey the news that our student, Mr Michael Cilliers (20), passed away on 4 January 2021 in Mossel Bay due to cancer.

He was studying towards a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Studies in the Faculty of Engineering & the Built Environment.

Mr Cilliers has been described as a brilliant young man and an exceptional student. He was a true team player, always willing to help and loved by both his fellow students and staff in the faculty. He will be remembered as a kind man who was full of life, laughter, integrity and joy. His uplifting presence will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his parents, Hannelie and Johan, and sister Maruchelle. His funeral was held at his home in Stilbaai on 12 January 2021.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Cilliers family. During this time of bereavement, our sincere condolences go out to the family and all who knew and loved him.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
