In remembrance: Yolanda van der Rheede

30 December 2020

Dear colleagues and students

With a deep sense of sadness, we write to share news of the passing of our colleague Mrs Yolanda van der Rheede (43), who was the senior administrative officer at the College of Accounting. She passed away on 17 December 2020.

She joined the university in 2003. She will be remembered for the integral role she played in the administrative success of the College of Accounting. Her warmth, kindness and spirit of joy was much loved by her colleagues. She embodied the true meaning of authenticity and what it means to be human. She was also well known, liked and respected across many departments and faculties at UCT. She will be solely missed by her colleagues and students in the College of Accounting.

Mrs Van der Rheede is survived by her husband Andre and sons Cameron and Codey. Details of her funeral have not yet been finalised by her family. Attendance will be by invitation only, particularly following the announcement by the state president that the country has moved into lockdown alert Level 3. The family is planning to have the funeral service available virtually – details will be shared via the department once available.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Van der Rheede family and our most heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew our late colleague.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
