In remembrance: Nodidi Qumbela

22 July 2020

Dear colleagues and students

With great sadness, we write to inform you about the passing of Ms Nodidi Qumbelo (41) on the night of Thursday, 16 July 2020 due to COVID-19 related complications. Ms Qumbelo’s death followed a short battle with cancer.

She was part of the Properties and Services department and was based at the Geological Sciences building, where she was responsible for cleaning, for over 15 years.

According to colleagues she was sweet and kind and a real pleasure to work with. She is remembered as someone who was always willing to help those around her and who always put the interests of others above her own. Her manager described her as a person whose job was her highest priority and about whom there were never any complaints. Her beautiful soul will be dearly missed by colleagues.

Ms Qumbelo is survived by her parents, three siblings and 20-year-old daughter, Noluvo.

Her funeral is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 25 July 2020 in the Eastern Cape.

The university has reached out to offer support to the Qumbelo family, and our heartfelt condolences go out to them and all who knew Ms Qumbelo.

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
