The University of Cape Town’s (UCT) executive director of finance, Ashley Francis, has been nominated for the 2020 CFO Awards – the ‘Oscars’ of South African finance – which will take place on Wednesday, 25 November 2020.

The annual CFO Awards recognise chief financial officers (CFO) of listed companies, large corporations, state-owned entities and government institutions, and awards them for outstanding performance and leadership.

Nominations are submitted by a panel of judges, business leaders, colleagues, finance teams and partners. A shortlist is prepared by the experts of CFO South Africa under the supervision of a panel of judges.

“I am honoured to have been nominated. The work of a CFO, or in our case, Executive Director: Finance, has shape-shifted tremendously from the past in that today’s CFOs need to possess a more encompassing, innovative mindset to ensure financial sustainability,” said Francis.

“The size of UCT is on par and, in many instances, larger than some JSE-listed companies and thus requires financial acumen and gravitas at a very high level. I’ve been fortunate to help shape a dedicated and efficient team of excellent professionals around me to define a set of innovative, yet robust strategies which we are able to execute.”
