In remembrance: Yonela Siwani

17 May 2019 | The UCT Executive

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the death of Ms Yonela Siwani (27) on Wednesday evening, 15 May 2019. It is particularly difficult to receive news on the passing of Ms Siwani as she was in an accident earlier this year involving a Jammie Shuttle.

Ms Siwani, who was a campus cleaner at the Menzies Building, joined UCT on 21 January 2014. Her colleagues describe her as a very quiet, humble person who was always friendly and smiling.

She is survived by a two-year-old daughter, a brother and some extended family members.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, 21 May from 11:00 to 13:00 at the New Lecture Theatre on upper campus.

The university has reached out to offer condolences and support to Ms Siwani’s family and colleagues during this time of grief.

Members of the campus community affected by this sad news can access support through the Human Resources department (staff) or the Student Wellness Service (students).

Sincerely

The UCT Executive
