National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards

16 April 2019 | DVC A/Prof Lis Lange

Dear colleagues

I am writing to alert you to a call for nominations for the National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards – the most prestigious South African awards in teaching and learning. These awards are hosted by the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA) in collaboration with the Council on Higher Education.

As you will see, the 2019 call is broader than usual and does not only include the winners of the university’s own teaching awards.

Please read the HELTASA call for applications document.

If you would like to apply, or to nominate somebody else, please submit the following information by 6 May 2019 (please ensure you have the approval of the person you are nominating):

  • name, position and department
  • three-page CV
  • a brief motivation that reflects on your (or your nominee’s) teaching strengths in relation to the HELTASA criteria.
  • at least one letter of reference from a UCT member of staff.

Please email this information to Cindy Gilbert.

The selection committee may contact you to provide further information.

Please note that if you are selected for nomination, you will be required to compile and submit a portfolio as detailed in the HELTASA call for applications document by 28 June 2019.

Thank you for participating in this initiative to recognise and showcase excellent teaching in South Africa.

Sincerely

Associate Professor Lis Lange
Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning
