New ED: Properties and Services, Mr Mughtar Parker

08 June 2018 | From the VC’s Desk

Dear colleagues and students

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mughtar Parker as the new executive director of Properties and Services (P&S) with effect from 1 July 2018. Mr Parker will be taking over from Mr Roland September, who has been the acting executive director of P&S since 1 June 2017, following the departure of Mr André Theys. On behalf of the executive, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr September for acting as executive director of P&S and for his handling of some very tough situations during this period.

Mr Parker has exceptional experience in property services and development and has held senior management roles at a number of top companies since June 1995, including Telkom, Liberty and Old Mutual. In addition to this he has also been a consultant to the Minister of Public Works. He also brings with him extensive transformational-change experience within the corporate and public real estate services environment.

With high-level experience in organisational change, operating-model design, real estate supply chain / procurement, cleaning and grounds services, food services, risk management, health and safety, engineering project management and spatial planning, Mr Parker has a proven track record that has equipped him perfectly for this job. His senior level executive positions will, we believe, enable him to formulate, implement and evaluate plans to guide the university in achieving its strategic goals. A particular focus, in which he also has significant experience, will be implementing campus sustainability plans.

Among the qualifications held by Mr Parker are a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting from the University of the Western Cape and a Master’s in Corporate Real Estate from CoreNet Global, which is based in Atlanta, USA.

He is a member of several relevant industry bodies, including the South African Property Owners Association, the South African Facilities Management Association and CoreNet Global.

Mr Parker will no doubt add value to the UCT executive team. Please join me in welcoming him to UCT in advance and wishing him all of the best ahead of his move next month.

Sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
