In remembrance: Mogammad Hansen

10 November 2017 | From the VC's Desk

Dear colleagues and students

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Mr Mogammad Hansen (63), a member of Cleaning Services, passed away on Monday, 6 November 2017, after taking ill and being hospitalised at Groote Schuur Hospital two weeks ago.

Mr Hansen, known as “Boeta Gammat” to many of his colleagues, worked as a cleaner for Supercare cleaning services for 11 years before being insourced as a UCT staff member in July 2016. He will be sorely missed at the Department of Environmental and Geographical Science, where he was held in high regard.

He has been described as a loyal and diligent employee who was also gentle and compassionate.

Mr Hansen’s funeral was held on the same day he passed away, in accordance with his religion. He is survived by his wife, Fatima, his son, Jerome, his daughter, Rashieda, and his stepdaughter, Rugaya, who is also employed at Cleaning Services.

The university has been in contact with his family and has reached out to offer support and assistance during this difficult and painful time.

Our thoughts are with Mr Hansen’s family and friends, and we convey our condolences to them and everyone who knew him.

Sincerely

Dr Max Price
Vice-Chancellor
