In remembrance: Adonia Chiminya

11 July 2016 | Campus Announcement

Dear colleagues and students,

I am writing with very sad news. The University of Cape Town was informed over the weekend that Mr Adonia Chiminya, a senior PhD student in the School of Economics, died after being struck by a vehicle in Maputo, Mozambique, on 29 June 2016. Economics faculty members have been in contact with Mr Chiminya's family in Zimbabwe and have offered assistance on behalf of UCT.

We understand that the funeral will take place in Zimbabwe very soon. The School of Economics is planning to host a ceremony to remember Mr Chiminya.

On behalf of the UCT community we extend heartfelt condolences to Mr Chiminya's family during this difficult time.

Counselling assistance is available to staff and students who may feel overwhelmed by this tragedy: via Student Wellness for students and the Human Resources Department for staff.

Sincerely

Kylie Hatton
Acting Executive Director
Communication & Marketing Department
