UCT looking for exceptional student leaders

UCT's Department for Student Affairs (DSA) is calling for nominations for the Student Leadership Awards 2014. The deadline for nominations is 16h00 on Wednesday, 24 September 2014.

Each year exceptional student leaders are recognised for their commitment to the university's vision, mission and values. There are three individual awards '“ the Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and DSA Executive Director's awards '“ and various team awards.

"These awards recognise excellence in student-led initiatives, while also celebrating positive role models," says Dr Moonira Khan, executive director of DSA.

Those nominated for individual awards must be registered UCT students, have a good academic record, and must not have received remuneration for their activities. Teams eligible for nomination must be from recognised student organisations and structures, where membership is voluntary and they do not get paid for their involvement.

Self-nominations will also be considered.

The completed nomination forms for the individual awards must be accompanied by the following:

  • A CV highlighting achievements from September 2013 to September 2014, but not excluding any prior involvement and achievements
  • A letter of motivation
  • Two referee reports, one of which must be from a registered student.

Nomination forms for the team awards must be accompanied by a report highlighting achievements from September 2013 to September 2014, a letter of motivation, a two referee reports and a list with the names and student numbers of the team members.

DSA administers the awards process and is also responsible for setting up the adjudication panel. The award ceremony will take place on 13 October 2014.
