New appointment for chair in Jewish studies

Professor Milton Shain has been appointed as the Isidore and Theresa Cohen Chair in Jewish Civilisation, a chair that was created in the Department of Hebrew Studies thanks to a bequest made by the late Isidore Cohen in 1971.

Shain believes the new chair will "add weight to the Centre's research efforts, which engage with the Jewish experience as a whole, with a focus on South Africa".
