New staffCheers: VC Dr Max Price toasts new UCT staffers.

As part of a recently introduced tradition at UCT, vice-chancellor Dr Max Price hosted a festive function at his residence, Glenara, on 23 June to welcome new staffers to the university.

In his welcome address to the approximately 30 guests, Price said that UCT is working to create an institutional culture that is non-exclusive and accessible to all.

"We are trying to create a community that is not just a workplace, but an inclusive social environment where staffers can feel at home."

Price noted that this event would be the first of many social functions in which the new staffers would be encouraged to socialise with fellow colleagues.

"I hope you have a wonderful and long stay, and remember that our doors are always open," he said.

Of the new staffers who took up their posts at UCT from between March and June, the Faculty of Health Sciences welcomes the largest contingent, with eight new members among its ranks.
