Gustav Preller Prize for Van der Merwe

On 27 June Assoc Prof Chris van der Merwe of the School of Languages and Literatures received the Gustav Preller Prize, awarded every three years by the Suid-Afrikaanse Akademie vir Wetenskap en Kuns for outstanding contributions to Theory of Literature and Literary Criticism in Afrikaans. Van der Merwe was lauded for his groundbreaking work on the theory of literature, his sensitivity to ethical issues, and the clarity of his formulation.
