Graduates get top fellow

UCT graduates Valerie Mizrahi and Hendrik Koornhof have been named Fellows of the prestigious American Academy of Microbiology, joining 72 other top microbiologists from around the world. Mizrahi works at the Medical Research Council, the National Health Laboratory Service and the University of Witwatersrand. Koornhof is with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and the National Health Laboratory Service. Fellows of the Academy are elected annually through a highly selective, peer-review process, based on their records of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced microbiology. There are now over 2 000 Fellows, representing all subspecialties of microbiology, from basic and applied research to teaching, public health, industry and government service.
