Surfing success at SASSU

31 July 2007

While few clubs managed to land silverware at the annual South African Students Sports Union (SASSU) games over the holiday, the Surfing Club did themselves proud at the Billabong SASSU competition, hosted by the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) at Seals, Cape St Francis, in June. Chris Bond and Josh Salie took the first two places in the men's competition, while Kirsten Anderson and Krystal Tavenor finished in second and third spot respectively in the women's event. The men also won their team section, beating the hosts by some margin. UCT had to play second fiddle to Nelson Mandela in the women's division, though, but had the last laugh, pipping NMMU in the overall standings. Not too surprisingly, Bond, Salie, Anderson and Tavenor have all been selected for the SASSU team.
