Hockey club lands new sponsorship

19 March 2007

New friends: Francois Lubbe, general manager for Absa retail banking services; Matthew McConkey, club president; and Moonira Khan, executive director of student services, toast the new Absa sponsorship of the UCT Hockey Club.

The UCT hockey club will sport a new name, kit and sponsor soon.

This after the club, to be known as the Absa UCT Hockey Club, recently signed on the dotted line with the financial services company for a four-year sponsorship agreement worth around R250 000. Absa made their first deposit of just over R50 000 earlier this year.

This money will go towards the general running of the club, explains John Donald, director of sport and recreation at UCT.

In addition to the cash award, Absa will also sponsor the club's new kit, which the men and women's teams will don in the 2007 season starting in April.
