Another fine win for athletics women

07 August 2006

Following on their 2005 Two Oceans win, a UCT women's team has recorded another big victory.

In mid-July, Lauren Stewart, Unice Vorster and Amy Aronson bagged the Knysna Half Marathon team title. Stewart and Vorster finished fourth and fifth respectively in the race, bested only by three women who have represented South Africa. Stewart and Aronson's times were both personal bests, while Vorster clocked her second-best time.

(Also in the field was Elana Meyer, who took it easy on the day, though, reports UCT coach James Evans.)

Nelson Bass finished seventh in the half marathon, while Will Robinson came in 17th in the full marathon.

UCT has also enjoyed a good cross country league, the women finishing in second spot in the 8km event and the men third in the 12km category. It's the first time in many years that the club has men and women's teams in the top three, says Robinson.

And, of course, the under-19 girls won their division.
