Richness of voices on CD

27 February 2006

The South African College of Music's Prof Peter Klatzow has launched a new CD, Towards the Light, a rich compilation of choral music, one work of which was written for the opening of the Peabody Concert Hall in Baltimore two years ago. The CD reinforces Klatzow's lifelong love of choral music, which began in his schooldays at St Martin's School, the renowned Anglican school in Johannesburg. "There's something naturally wonderful and pure about choral music," Klatzow said. Marimba duets add a touch of local flavour. "Choir, organ and marimba are specialities of mine." Works include A Fisherman's Song of Praise, one of many taken from an African prayer book, compiled by Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu. (The CD's striking cover features the panel of a Shangaan tapestry.)
