New coach for rugby side

07 November 2005

The UCT FNB rugby first team ended the 2005 season on a high. Since then, the club has been scouting around for a coach that would keep the momentum going.

After months of cud-chewing, that club's exco has appointed Dave Mallett - younger brother to Nick - as head coach for the UCT first and second XVs for 2006. Mallett played and captained UCT while studying here, and has been described as "a loyal Ikey through and through". The club will also soon name a new technical director as well as the assistants and consultants who will be helping Mallett.

"We have some outstanding people who are interested in these positions," says Spencer King, the club's director of rugby, "and we are confident we will put together a team of coaches who will be the envy of many clubs (and unions!)."
