Light parade

19 September 2005

Hundreds of children in Clanwilliam took part in the annual lantern parade through the town on September 4, which ended in a re-enactment of a San story. Mark Fleishman, head of UCT drama, led this year's performance of a story featuring the mantis and a baby springbok that is abducted by an elephant. The Bleek and Lloyd archive of San mythology, housed at UCT, has formed the basis for the Clanwilliam arts development project, which is an ongoing collaboration between UCT, the Magnet Theatre and the Jazzart Dance Theatre. The project is sponsored by Fairheads Trust Company and was nominated in two categories (youth and increasing awareness of the arts) for a Business Arts South Africa Award this year.
