UCT team beats everyone to the gun

26 October 2004

The UCT Athletics Club is on a high. First, in late September, the women's team of Kerry-Ann Marais, Debbie Noel, Lauren Stewart and Unice Vorster beat Stellenbosch for the first time in the intervarsity road relay since the early 1980s. A week later, Stewart and Vorster joined teammate Helen Clark to win the senior women's race at the Cape Argus/Woolworths Gun Run, the popular half-marathon that sported a field of over 1 600 runners this year. Vorster was also the first junior woman past the line, setting a new UCT junior record for the half-marathon, beating the old record by a full 10 minutes. Marais was second home in the women's 10km race.
