Office thief on the prowl

24 November 2003

UCT is being dogged by the persistent problem of office theft and Campus Protection Services (CPS) once again appeals to the university community to stay alert and to be aware of any loiterers on campus.

It has also come to the attention of CPS that an office thief has reappeared after a two-year absence. The woman, who has since changed her hair colour from black to red, wanders around the campus, stealing mainly wallets, cash and credit cards.

Staff and students alike are asked to be vigilant and to report anyone who loiters around buildings, as well as those who look suspicious, to CPS.

Vincent Ricketts, CPS operations manager, said that thefts increase at this time of year as many students leave campus to go home for the holidays.

"When offices are unattended, doors should be locked," said Ricketts.

CPS would like to thank the university community for their assistance, co-operation and perseverance in cutting back on campus crime. "We wish everyone a safe and blessed festive season."
