Segal to chair international accreditation team

04 November 2002
The prestigious European Foundation for Management Development (efmd) has appointed GSB Director Professor Nick Segal to chair a select international team of auditors in France next month.

The team will review the application for the renewal of efmd's EQUIS accreditation of one of France's leading business schools, the Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC) School outside Paris.

This is the third efmd audit panel in which Segal has participated. Earlier this year he was on the team that audited the application of the Richard Ivey School of Business, Canada's leading business school, and in 2000 he audited the application of Stellenbosch Business School. Segal's participation in the review panel will help to boost the GSB's profile on the international stage and will extend its networks with business schools around the world.

The efmd is Europe's largest network body of its kind with over 400 members drawn from academic, business, public service and consultancy groups. Accreditation from this respected body confirms that a business school's programme meets international standards of excellence.

Last year, the GSB became one of the first schools outside Europe to be accredited by efmd, joining the exclusive ranks of then some 55 schools worldwide.

Segal said it was an honour to have been asked to chair an efmd peer review team. “HEC is one of France's top schools. The GSB already has a number of excellent partner schools in Europe and our participation in this audit will help us get an inside view as to what is happening in a well-resourced, first-world institution,” he added.
