UCT’s OIC will host a webinar titled “White privilege: A critical dialogue on racism and inequality in the time of COVID-19”.

The Office for Inclusivity and Change (OIC) at the University of Cape Town (UCT) will host a live webinar themed “White privilege: A critical dialogue on racism and inequality in the time of COVID-19” and invites all members of the campus community to attend.

Hosted in partnership with the Social Justice Agency, the event will shine a spotlight on “structural racism and inequality”, which have been amplified in South Africa and internationally during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Panellists participating in the discussion include Dr Robin DiAngelo and Dr Wilhelm Verwoerd (Stellenbosch University) and Dr Mandisa Haarhoff (UCT). The trio will unpack the definition of white privilege and engage in constructive, critical conversations on the topic to help drive “racial justice in our communities”. The session will be moderated by Stanley Henkeman, executive director of the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation.

The webinar will take place on Thursday, 30 July, at 18:30 and will also act as a fundraiser for UCT’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund.
